What Are The Symptoms?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)  is a neurological disorder that causes pressure on the median nerve, which runs from your forearm into the palm of your hand, and becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist.

Carpal tunnel is the narrow passageway surrounded by bones and ligaments on the palm side of your hand. When the median nerve is compressed, you may feel numbness, tingling, and weakness in your hand and wrist. Your fingers can become swollen and useless. You might wake up and feel you need to “shake out” your hand or wrist.

With the anatomy of your wrist, health problems and possibly repetitive hand motions can contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome.

Proper medical treatment usually relieves the tingling and numbness and restores your wrist and hand function with time.

Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery

Severe Symptoms, if your carpal tunnel syndrome has worsening to the point of requiring surgery to avoid long-term damage and disability, Dr. Pournaras can perform surgery on your wrist to widen the carpal tunnel and  release the compression on your median nerve.

Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery is performed by using an endoscope – a very thin tubular instrument with a fiber-optic camera on the end. The camera allows him to view the problem and to make adjustments in your wrist by using small surgical tools. Because this surgery involves only tiny incisions, there is less blood loss, smaller scars, and a quicker recovery time.
